In the electrical power industry, product reliability and a stable supply chain are critical factors. However, this client faced an ultra-complex production structure: while their monthly volume was relatively small at around 20 units, the product required a staggering 1,200 different types of wire harnesses. Because wire harness manufacturing inherently relies heavily on manual processes and specifications vary wildly by product, the complexity was exceptionally high.
Existing suppliers struggled to provide stable support due to the high management overhead compared to the low production volume, resulting in persistent risks regarding lead times and quality. Amid these challenging circumstances, the client chose BK Electronics as their strategic partner.
Establishing a Stable Production System for Complex Electrical Power Products
Through close collaboration with the client, BK Electronics finalized production volumes for each period, scaling up from monthly operations to an annual framework to establish a fixed-volume, year-round operating system. By establishing advance production plans and securing long-lead materials, we formed a dedicated production team to build this annual system on a foundation of standardized quality. As a result, the client was able to stabilize monthly production planning, minimize material supply risks, and significantly reduce urgent production costs.
With as many as 1,200 types of wire harnesses required, this project demanded a high level of worker expertise and advanced production management due to its high-mix, low-volume nature. Taking these production characteristics into account, BK Electronics established a specialized manufacturing system utilizing its Vietnamese subsidiary. By operating BBK, our Vietnam branch, we deployed a highly skilled workforce specialized in manual harness processes, optimally tailoring our operations to handle high-mix, low-volume production. As a result, we successfully secured production flexibility, enhanced cost competitiveness, and established a stable manufacturing infrastructure.
Operating the Same System and Quality Assurance as the Korean Headquarters
BBK, the Vietnamese subsidiary of BK Electronics, operates not as a simple outsourced manufacturing facility, but under the exact same production and quality management systems as the Korean headquarters.
